Sikkim’s Ecclesiastical Minister Sonam Lama Calls on Union Minister Kiren Rijiju
Northeast Desk, 6th July: Sikkim’s Minister for Ecclesiastical, PHE & Water Resources Departments, Sonam Lama, met with Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on July 5 to discuss key issues facing Sikkim’s Ecclesiastical Department. Lama emphasized the urgent need for a parent ministry or agency at the Union level for Sikkim’s age-old Ecclesiastical Department.
Currently, the absence of such an authority results in financial challenges as no central schemes, welfare measures, or grants from the Union are extended to the department.
Lama also urged Rijiju to explore the possibility of an early visit from His Holiness the 17th Gyalwa Karmapa Ogyen Trinley Dorje to Sikkim, informing him of the state government’s full preparedness for hosting him.
Additionally, engineers and officials from the PHE department presented a detailed report on various remedial measures needed following a series of natural calamities affecting Sikkim.
Rijiju assured Lama that he would address these issues effectively and congratulated Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang (Golay) and the Sikkimese people on the recent electoral victory. He also praised CM Tamang’s simple lifestyle and his dedication to the Sikkimese people.
