Sikkim’s New Government to be Sworn in Today with Prem Singh Tamang as Chief Minister

Northeast Desk, 10th June: Today marks a significant milestone in Sikkim’s political landscape as the swearing-in ceremony for the new government is set to take place at Paljor Stadium in Gangtok. Prem Singh Tamang, the leader of the Sikkim Krantikari Morcha (SKM) party, which secured a majority in the recent elections, will be sworn in as Chief Minister for his second term.

The ceremony, scheduled to commence at 4:30 pm, will witness the Governor of Sikkim, Lakshman Acharya, administering the oath of office and secrecy to Tamang and his Council of Ministers. A massive turnout of approximately 30,000 people is expected to attend the event, highlighting the public’s anticipation and enthusiasm.

To ensure the smooth conduct of the ceremony, stringent security measures have been put in place across Gangtok. As part of these measures, all government and private educational institutions in the Gangtok Municipal area will remain closed today, facilitating security arrangements and traffic restrictions.

A traffic advisory has been issued, outlining restrictions on NH-10, including the prohibition of heavy vehicles from midnight to 8 pm and restrictions on all vehicles between Traffic Point, Hospital Dara, and District Administrative Centre from noon to 7 pm. Additionally, designated drop-off points and parking areas have been allocated to streamline traffic flow.

For security reasons, attendees have been advised not to carry food or drink bottles into the venue. The presence of dignitaries, including the former Governor of Sikkim, Ganga Prasad, further adds to the significance of the high-profile event.

The SKM’s landslide victory in the elections, securing 31 out of 32 assembly seats, underscores the party’s strong mandate and public trust. Prem Singh Tamang’s reappointment as Chief Minister after leading his party to victory reflects the continuity and stability expected in Sikkim’s governance under his leadership.
