Sikkim’s Pakyong District Marks Success on 11th Day of Mission to Revive Barren Land

Northeast Desk, 5th October: The District Administration Office of Pakyong has announced the successful completion of the 11th day of the *Mission Revival of Barren Land for Cultivation, an initiative aimed at transforming unused land into a thriving hub for *sustainable agriculture, horticulture, and biodiversity tourism across Sikkim.

As part of this mission, *Minister of Agriculture, Horticulture, and Animal Husbandry, Puran Kr. Gurung, inaugurated the new *Village Level Workers (VLW) office at Kamarey Village, which will provide vital support to local farmers. The new office marks a significant milestone, enhancing the production capabilities of farmers and promoting the revival of barren land for cultivation.

The initiative’s *Field Day Program, aimed at involving the community in practical demonstrations of land revival, has seen impressive results, with increasing community engagement and participation. The *Panchayats have played a pivotal role, raising awareness about the economic and environmental benefits of reviving barren lands. Many Gram Panchayats have already reported increased revenues through sustainable production methods.

This success highlights the dedication of the *Block Administrative Centres (BACs), **Gram Panchayat Kendra (GPKs), and the *Additional District Collector (ADC) Development Office of Pakyong District, in partnership with local communities. Their combined efforts are seen as a significant step toward ensuring sustainable development while maintaining Sikkim’s status as India’s first fully organic state.

The Office of the ADC Development expressed heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders, acknowledging their tireless efforts in making this mission a resounding success, and reinforcing Sikkim’s commitment to environmental stewardship.
