Northeast Desk, 8th December: Nestled at an elevation of around 12,000 feet amid the grandeur of the Himalayan Mountains, Tsomgo Lake in Sikkim is a captivating sight as it experiences the initial snowfall of the season.

The recent snowfall transformed Sikkim’s Tsomgo Lake and its surroundings into a scene straight from a fairy tale, captivating tourists and causing images of the region to go viral on social media. The state eagerly welcomed a long-awaited second spell of snowfall.

Chairman of Sikkim Tourism Development Corporation, Lukendra Rasaiky, shared, “The prime tourism destination of Sikkim-Tsomgo-Nathula-Zuluk circuit attracts numerous tourist arrivals to Sikkim, and when there is snow, it is even bigger. Heavy to very heavy snowfall is on in the Tsomgo – Nathula- Zuluk circuit. Now, here is the hope of Sikkim tourism bouncing back.”

Encompassing over 60 acres, Tsomgo Lake undergoes a magical winter transformation, with temperatures plummeting to as low as -20°C on certain days.

Known locally as the “source of water,” Tsomgo Lake’s water origins remain veiled in mystery and local legend, enhancing the allure of this frozen spectacle.

Those who brave the cold during this period are treated to the tranquil beauty of the snow-covered landscape, where the frozen lake mirrors the clear winter sky.

Typically commencing by late December and lasting until April, the snowfall blankets the area in white and glistening ice.
