Singpho Community Celebrates Shapawng Yaung Manau Poi Festival in Arunachal Pradesh
Namsai: The Singpho community in Arunachal Pradesh celebrated its grand annual cultural festival, Shapawng Yaung Manau Poi, with a four-day event in Nampong village, Namsai district.
The festival, which brought together Singpho people from India and Myanmar, served as a testament to the tribe’s deep-rooted cultural heritage and unity.
Dedicated to their ancestral forefather, Shapawng Yaung, the festival holds immense significance for the Singpho community. The term “Poi” means festival, while “Manau” refers to dance, symbolizing the event as a vibrant celebration of their lineage through traditional performances.
Throughout the four days, the festival showcased an array of cultural dances, rituals, and performances that highlighted the unique traditions of the Singpho tribe. Participants from Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Myanmar gathered to take part in the celebrations, reinforcing the strong cultural ties that transcend national borders.
Organizers emphasized that Shapawng Yaung Manau Poi plays a crucial role in preserving Singpho traditions while fostering intergenerational cultural exchange. It also promotes cultural tourism in Arunachal Pradesh, offering visitors an opportunity to witness the rich heritage of the Singpho people.
