Sinlung Hills Council Elections Scheduled for November 5 in Mizoram
Northeast Desk, 3rd October: The Mizoram State Election Commissioner, H. Lalthlangliana, has announced that elections for the 12-member Sinlung Hills Council will be held on November 5. The election process has key dates established, including an October 10 deadline for submitting nominations and an October 14 cutoff for candidate withdrawals. The scrutiny of nominations is scheduled for October 11.
Voting on November 5 will take place from 7 AM to 4 PM, with vote counting commencing immediately afterward. The final electoral roll lists 23,789 registered voters, of whom 11,914 are women, showcasing the demographic composition of the council’s electorate.
Security measures are being prioritized, with 38 polling stations established, of which 16 have been designated as critical due to their proximity to the Assam and Manipur borders.
A pre-poll alliance has also been formed between the ruling Zoram People’s Movement and the Hmar People’s Convention, featuring a seat-sharing agreement for the 12 available seats, setting up a competitive election in the region.
