Six Arrested for Smuggling Drugs

Guwahati: The Government Railway Police  apprehended five women and one male at the Chaparmukh Railway Station for attempting to smuggle brown sugar onto the Down Dibrugarh-Rangia Express.

According to the police officials, the six peddlers have been identified as Wahidul Islam, Rupjan Bibi, Suina Akhtar Selima Akhtar, Hazera Khatun, Kulsuma Begam and two children. They all hail from Da-gaon village under Juria police station in Nagaon district.

Police have taken 40 soap boxes hidden with a significant amount of brown sugar from the peddlers’ possession. The market value of the confiscated brown sugar, according to railway police officers, will exceed Rs 1 crore.

The accused admitted that Rangia Express was utilised to transport the drugs from Dimapur to Guwahati.
