Six Arrested in Mizoram with Fake Indian Currency

Guwahati: At least six people on Wednesday were arrested in the Champai area of Mizoram with counterfeit Indian cash.

Sources claim that the Champai Police started an operation after receiving information and busted a gang that was trading in phony currency.

During the operation, the police detained five people from Zotlang and seized an amount of counterfeit rupees totaling 8,52,500 from their hands.

Later, in the evening, the police detained another man from Lunglei in Aizawl on suspicion of carrying phony cash notes.

Two Mizoram residents were detained in Tripura’s Agartala last month with fake Indian cash worth Rs. 1.21 lakhs that was allegedly produced abroad.

Babul Krishna Chakma and Rajesh Chakma were the people who were arrested.

“SDPO, Ajay Kumar Das, following information of another sister information, drove into an ambush, to nab the culprits of fake currency, and sophisticated arms and succeeded to catch the targeted convicts red-handed from the ISBT (Inter State Bus Terminus), Chandrapur Agartala,” an official statement said.
