Six NLFT Extremists Surrender with Arms in Tripura
Northeast Desk, 9th February: Six members of the banned outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) (PD group) surrendered before Tripura Police on Friday, marking a significant development in the state’s security landscape.
According to a press release from Tripura Police, the surrendered extremists are identified as Jatindra Tripura (36), Mokhiram Tripura (36), Romawia Reang (50), Johanjoy Reang (36) from North District, and Pradip Tripura (27) and Mani charan Tripura (38) from Dhalai District. They crossed over from their hideout in Bangladesh to join the mainstream of life and surrendered with arms before Krishnendu Chakravertty, DIGP(Intelligence) at Special Branch in Agartala.
The surrendered individuals handed over two Chinese rifles, one Country made Sten gun, six 70mm live rounds, two Chinese grenades, 7.62 live rounds-15 Nos, two extortion notice books, and Bangladesh taka 1000/-.
The press release highlighted that the group, previously active across the border in Bangladesh, renounced the path of bloodshed and opted for peace. These individuals had been associated with extremist outfits between 2017 and 2022.
Tripura has witnessed a significant number of NLFT cadres surrendering before security forces since January 2022. With 36 active members of NLFT surrendering and 8 cadres arrested by Tripura Police during this period, the state has made notable progress in its efforts towards insurgency-free status.
