Six suspected Rohingyas detained in North Tripura
Guwahati: At least six suspected Rohingyas have been detained for allegedly travelling without valid travel documents at Dharmanagar railway station in North Tripura on Thursday.
The detainees include three boys, one woman and two children.
According to reports, they came from Delhi to Dharmanagar by Tripura Sundari express, a long-distance train which connects Agartala with the national capital and their final destination was Kailashahar, a border sub-division of Unakoti district.
According to a police officer, “While the woman has a UN identity card as a Rohingya refugee, the remaining five were unable to present any legitimate documents and claimed to have come here (Dharmanagar) to visit a relative’s house.”
“We discovered inconsistencies in their claims. Furthermore, they were unable to communicate in Bengali or Hindi… We will follow the law and take legal action if they fail to produce legitimate documentation “, he further added.
It needs to noted that they have been handed over to Dharmanagar Police Station for interrogation to know their real identities.
