SKM Vice President Rebukes BJP’s Comments on Sikkim Chief Minister
Northeast Desk, 4th April: In a sharp rejoinder to BJP’s Incharge, Dr. Dilip Jaiswal’s recent comments targeting Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang, senior politician and Vice President of the SKM (Sikkim Krantikari Morcha) party, G M Gurung, has condemned the remarks, emphasizing the need to respect the authority and dignity of the elected leader.
Gurung, expressing strong disapproval of Jaiswal’s remarks, asserted, “You may be a national leader, but you don’t have the right to insult our Chief Minister.” He underscored the importance of upholding the stature of Sikkim’s leadership and warned against any attempts to denigrate it further.
Acknowledging BJP’s electoral aspirations in Sikkim, Gurung drew a firm line against perceived disrespect towards the Chief Minister, stating that such actions are unacceptable and insulting to the people of Sikkim. He emphasized the need for the central government to demonstrate love and respect towards the state, given its historical and cultural significance within the Northeast region.
Gurung criticized Jaiswal’s alleged threats against the Chief Minister, asserting Sikkim’s sovereignty and dignity against external interference. He cautioned that disparaging remarks against the Chief Minister could adversely impact BJP’s electoral prospects in the upcoming elections, despite the party’s potential traction in the region.
The tense exchange between the SKM and BJP escalated after Jaiswal’s warning to Sikkim CM on April 1, stating, “If you terminate any employee of Sikkim, Prem Singh Tamang will also be terminated.” These remarks, accompanied by allegations of corruption, have sparked controversy in Sikkim’s political arena.
Jaiswal further claimed that Tamang’s recent visit to Delhi to seek support from BJP for alliances could lead to legal repercussions, hinting at potential corruption charges. However, Gurung remained steadfast in defending the Chief Minister’s integrity and asserting Sikkim’s autonomy against external pressure.
