Smooth Conduct of Kohima Municipal Council Election: Postal Voting and Security Measures

Northeast Desk, 25th June: Voters on election duty actively participated in casting their votes for the Kohima Municipal Council election at the District Customary Court, DC Office, Kohima. Here are the key details of the electoral process:

Postal Voting:

  • A total of 103 postal ballots were issued to voters on election duty.
  • Out of these, 101 votes were cast, indicating a high participation rate among those on election duty.

Voting Process and Security Measures:

  • Following the completion of voting, all ballot boxes were promptly deposited at the Strong Room.
  • The Strong Room has been securely sealed in the presence of key officials including the Election Observer for KMC, Deputy Commissioner Kohima, ADC Kohima, Assistant Returning Officer, Nodal Officer for Voting of Voters on Election Duty, and representatives of political parties.
  • The Strong Room is under continuous CCTV surveillance and equipped with stringent security measures to ensure the integrity and safety of the ballots.

Directives for Smooth Voting Process:

  • In preparation for the Municipal/Town Council Polls of 2024, the Government of Nagaland issued clear directives under Rule 48 of the Nagaland Municipal Election Rules 2023.
  • These directives include measures to facilitate a smooth, secure, and orderly voting process. Notably, separate queues are designated for men and women voters to prevent overcrowding.
  • Priority access is provided to persons with disabilities, senior citizens aged 75 years and above, and women with babies. Female assistants or MTS polling officials are available to assist these voters as needed.

The adherence to these directives aims to enhance voter convenience and ensure inclusivity during the electoral process. With robust security and procedural safeguards in place, the Kohima Municipal Council election progresses with transparency and efficiency, fostering confidence in democratic practices among the electorate.
