Smuggled Timber Seized in Assam’s Baithalangso
Guwahati: The forest department conducted a drive at Baithalangso village in Karbi Anglong district of Assam as part of a significant crackdown on illegal timber smuggling.
A significant amount of expensive smuggled timber including teak and gomari wood worth lakhs of rupees was seized as a result of the operation.
The Tata mobile vehicle with the registration number AS09-C-8860 which was reportedly used to transport the contraband timber was also impounded by the forest department officials during the drive.
The confiscated wood and vehicle have been handed over to the appropriate authorities for further examination and legal action.
Similar events occurred on April 2, when the Forest department carried out a series of raids in South Kamrup and seized contraband wood and wood chips in Goroimari.
The Goroimari Forest Officer directed the operation which included many targets in the area and had great success.
The raid resulted in the forest department seizing a sizable quantity of lumber that was being smuggled out of the region. The illegally obtained wood was loaded onto a magic van which was seized by the law enforcement. The van with the number plate AS25-DC-2071 was being utilised to move the illegal products which were allegedly going to a number of locations outside the state.
