Snow-Covered Sela Tunnel Draws Tourists to Arunachal Pradesh’s Winter Wonderland

Itanagar: Tourists from across India are flocking to the Sela Tunnel area in Arunachal Pradesh, where a fresh blanket of snow has transformed the region into a breathtaking winter destination. The snow-covered landscape, coupled with the chill of single-digit temperatures, is offering visitors an unforgettable escape from the heat of other parts of the country.

Situated at an altitude of 13,000 feet above sea level, the Sela Tunnel comprises two separate tunnels and serves as a major attraction for travelers eager to experience the snow-clad beauty of Arunachal Pradesh. The North and South portals of the tunnel, blanketed in pristine snow, have become a magnet for tourists seeking adventure and panoramic mountain views.

The snowfall across Tawang’s mountainous ranges has further boosted the region’s appeal. As temperatures soar in cities like Guwahati, Tawang’s cool climate and snow-covered peaks offer a refreshing retreat. Tourists are captivated by the striking contrast between the humid plains and the serene, snow-laden highlands.

Namgey Tsering, MLA of Tawang, emphasized the role of weather in attracting visitors to the region. “Weather plays a big role in attracting tourists to the Northeast, and we must harness this changing weather pattern as a unique selling point for our tourism circuit. The chill in the air and the snow-capped mountains create the perfect setting for an adventurous journey to Tawang,” he remarked.

A tourist from Chirang, Assam, compared the snowy landscape of Tawang to Switzerland, highlighting its serene atmosphere and distinct winter charm. “While Assam is experiencing hot, humid weather, Tawang remains cool with snowfall at various locations,” she said, expressing her delight at the striking seasonal difference.

With its unpolluted environment, stunning scenery, and pleasant climate, Tawang continues to rank as one of the premier tourist destinations in Northeast India. The region’s unique blend of tranquility and adventure makes it an ideal getaway for those seeking both relaxation and excitement amid the majestic Himalayan ranges.
