Solar Power for Assam Hills

Guwahati: Assam Power Minister Bimal Bora said that households in the hilly areas where power lines cannot be installed would be given power by solar systems or other renewable means of energy in the next “six to eight months”.

Bimal Borah stated that Assam has 4.80 lakh households which do not have electricity but the electricity department has started projects to install electricity in such households through alternative means.

He said that it was not possible to connect power cables in certain hills of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao and also on the sandbar areas of the state due to the terrain.

He added that within the next eight months, the department would take initiatives to provide power by solar systems or other renewable means of energy to such households.
