Itanagar: Union Minister V. Somanna has completed a comprehensive review of Central government-sponsored schemes within Arunachal Pradesh’s Lohit district, placing a sharp focus on the necessity for robust governance to meet the populace’s demands and stimulate rapid progress.

The Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti, Somanna, pressed for a collective commitment to public welfare, insisting that the advantages of these initiatives be delivered to citizens without delay and with maximum efficiency, according to a released official statement.

In the course of the review meeting held on Friday, the minister also underscored the importance of closer collaboration between state and central government bodies to optimise the execution of developmental projects.

A key point of emphasis was the ‘Jan Aushadhi Yojana’, designed to supply affordable, high-quality pharmaceuticals to the public, with the minister pledging the government’s unwavering backing for this endeavor.

Earlier in the proceedings, Lohit Deputy Commissioner K N Damo presented a detailed report on the district’s developmental status, outlining the progress of current schemes and highlighting significant achievements.

Lok Sabha MP Tapir Gao, representing the Arunachal East constituency, voiced concerns regarding the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP), noting its reliance on state funds due to inadequate central allocations.

Gao urged the central government to increase its financial support to ensure the sustainability of the programme, which provides critical social security to vulnerable groups including the elderly, widows, and individuals with disabilities.

The MP also highlighted the urgent need to modernise Anganwadi centres, which are vital for the health and development of children and mothers, calling for improved infrastructure, enhanced staff training, and more effective resource allocation.

Further, Gao stressed the critical importance of timely submission of utilisation certificates (UCs), warning that delays obstruct the release of funds and negatively impact the efficiency of public service delivery.

He asserted that ensuring accountability and swift fund disbursement is essential for the seamless execution of government programs.

Throughout the meeting, department heads from various sectors provided updates on centrally sponsored schemes spanning education, health, infrastructure, and social welfare.
