Sonia Gandhi seeks 3-week time to appear before ED in National Herald Case
Guwahati: Sonia Gandhi, who recently tested positive for Covid-19 and is being held in isolation has requested a three-week extension from the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) to appear for questioning in the National Herald money laundering case.
Sonia Gandhi along with Rahul Gandhi was scheduled to be questioned at the ED office in Delhi on Wednesday. However, she did ignore the summons issued by the agency due to her illness.
According to reports, the Congress president has contacted the ED because she has failed to test negative for the virus. She has emphasised the physicians’ recommendation to take it easy.
Sonia Gandhi tested positive for Covid-19 on June 2 and was scheduled to appear in front of the ED on June 8.
It may be mentioned that a case was recently filed to investigate possible financial irregularities in the Young Indian daily, which is owned by the party.
The National Herald is published by Associated Journals Limited (AJL) and owned by Young Indian Pvt Limited.
The CBI recently questioned top Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Pawan Bansal as part of the inquiry.

As per reports, the ED questioned former Union minister Pawan Bansal and senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge in April as part of the money laundering investigation into the National Herald case.
In the instance of the acquisition of the Associated Journals Limited (AJL), which ran the Congress mouthpiece, National Herald, by Young Indian Pvt Ltd, accusations of cheating, conspiracy, and criminal breach of trust have been levelled.
