South Korea opposition chief stabbed by autograph-seeker During Busan Visit

International Desk, 2nd Jan: A man posing as a supporter attacked Lee Jae-myung, the leader of South Korea’s Democratic Party and former presidential candidate in Busan on Tuesday.

The assault took place at the construction site of a new airport where Lee was engaging with reporters.

Seeking an autograph, the attacker stabbed Lee in the neck. As of now, Lee’s current condition remains uncertain.

Fortunately, authorities managed to apprehend a suspect at the scene.

Lee, who narrowly lost the 2022 presidential election to Yoon Suk Yeol, is known for his controversial stance.

In a previous act of protest against Yoon’s policies, Lee had undertaken a 24-day hunger strike.

The motive behind this recent attack on the opposition leader is yet to be determined.
