South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai Honors Differently-Abled Students with Salary Donation

Northeast Desk, 14th July: South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai has garnered praise for his philanthropic gesture of donating his entire month’s salary to recognize and support six differently-abled students for their remarkable achievements in academics and sports.

The felicitation ceremony, organized by the Raid Laban Sports Social and Cultural Club, was held at the State Convention Centre on July 13, celebrating the talents of differently-abled individuals. The honoured students, representing various institutions across Shillong and Ri Bhoi District, include participants from Fernando Speech and Hearing Centre, Bethany Society, Jyoti Sroat School, and Lumparing Vidhyapeeth Secondary School.

Sanbor Shullai allocated Rs 1 lakh from his monthly salary of Rs 2.3 lakh to Priska Pyngrope of Bethany Society. Pyngrope’s participation in the upcoming World Arms Wrestling championship in Moldova, Europe, will benefit significantly from this contribution, underscoring Shullai’s support for her preparation and participation.

The remaining Rs 1.3 lakh was distributed among five other students, with each receiving Rs 20,000. Among the recipients was Ankita Das, recognized for her exceptional academic performance, achieving 89 per cent in the 2024 SSLC examination.

Shullai’s generous initiative not only highlights his commitment to empowering differently-abled youth but also encourages broader recognition of their talents and achievements in the community.
