Northeast Desk, 23th September: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established to investigate the theft of gold valued at approximately Rs 4 crore from the Bank of Baroda (BOB) branch within the Manipur University complex. Four bank employees, including the branch manager, have been apprehended as part of the inquiry.

The robbery occurred in the early hours of September 13, with the incident reported to the Singjamei police station on September 17. The theft was discovered by the bank cashier during routine operations when he found the vault’s lock broken while attempting to open it around 10 AM. Checks revealed several packets of gold missing, raising suspicions of internal theft.

The involvement of bank staff has heightened scrutiny regarding security protocols at financial institutions, prompting concerns about the effectiveness of existing safeguards.
