Speedy train hits three elephants in Tamil Nadu
Guwahati: A passenger train hit and killed three female elephants in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu on Friday.
The incident took place at Mahendramedu near Navakkarai of the district.
According to reports, the elephants were crossing the railway track near Marappalam thottam on A-Line between Walayar and Madukkarai sections when the train hit them.
One of the elephants was found on the track while two others seem to be thrown off the track and, on the ground, below.
It was further reported that the loco pilot stopped the train and informed the Palakkad division of Southern Railway to alert the forest department.
It may be mentioned that after the incident the train was stopped at Walayar for a couple of hours and later resumed its journey.
