Sprinter Hima Das Out of CWG, Finished 5th in Relay
Guwahati: Hima Das’ final chance at a medal in the 4×100-meter relay at the 2022 Commonwealth Games failed and India came in fifth.
Nigeria won the gold medal, followed by England in second, Jamaica in third, and Australia in fourth. India’s top four competitors, Dutee Chand, Hima Das, Sarbani Nanda, and Jyothi Yarraji were far behind and were unable to pose a serious threat to the top three.
Prior to it, India’s Hima Das, a medal hopeful in the 200-meter women’s race, withdrew after failing to advance to the final.
All Assam athletes’ ambitions of representing their nation with distinction were dashed at this point as Shiva Thapa, Lovlina Borgohain and now Hima Das all underperformed in their respective categories.
Only Nayanmoni Saikia saved face by being a part of the Women’s Lawn Ball Gold winning team.
