St. Francis de Sales School Marks 79th Independence Day with Padma Shri Jadav Payeng
Guwahati – St. Francis de Sales School, Guwahati, celebrated the 79th Independence Day with great patriotic spirit, welcoming Padma Shri Jadav Payeng, the “Forest Man of India,” as Chief Guest.
The celebration began with the flag hoisting by Payeng and Principal Rev. Father George Thomas, accompanied by the National Anthem performed by the school band. Students participated in a parade, band display, inspiring speeches, patriotic songs, and cultural performances.
In his address, Payeng stressed that true patriotism lies in protecting the environment for future generations. “Every sapling we plant today is a symbol of freedom and responsibility,” he said, urging students to stay rooted to the soil, safeguard nature, and contribute selflessly to the nation’s progress.
The programme concluded with a plantation drive led by the Chief Guest, followed by media interaction and refreshments.
A day earlier, on August 14, the school hosted “An Interactive Day with the Forest Man of India,” where Payeng shared his life journey and encouraged students to see environmental protection as a patriotic duty.
The two-day engagement reflected the school’s dedication to fostering patriotism, cultural pride, and environmental responsibility among its students.
