Stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus Injures Nine Amid Pre-Diwali Rush

Mumbai, Maharashtra — A chaotic stampede broke out at Bandra Terminus in Mumbai early Sunday morning, leaving nine passengers injured as they scrambled to board a Gorakhpur-bound train amid the pre-Diwali rush.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. when train number 22921, scheduled to depart at 5:10 a.m., arrived on platform 1. The stampede began as a large crowd surged forward, vying for seats in the general compartment. As the crowd grew denser, panic spread, sparking a desperate rush among passengers.

Eyewitnesses described a frantic scene, with bloodstains visible on the platform as Railway Police and fellow travelers rushed to assist the injured. Several passengers were transported on stretchers as medical teams arrived to provide urgent care.

According to medical officials, seven of the nine injured passengers are reported to be in stable condition. Two passengers, however, sustained more serious injuries and are currently undergoing treatment. Authorities are investigating the incident, and additional crowd control measures are expected to be implemented as the holiday travel period continues.
