State Distributes Fire Relief, Discrepancies Surface in Aid Allocation

The state government has moved to provide financial aid to those affected by recent fire incidents, with Revenue & Disaster Management Minister Kyrmen Shylla confirming the disbursement of funds. Midaris Pde of Kut Village received Rs 1,30,000 following a devastating fire that occurred on December 29, 2024. This action falls under the government’s commitment to assist citizens during times of crisis.

However, the distribution of aid has raised questions concerning fairness and procedural consistency. Riburom Kharrngi of Puriang, whose residence was also damaged in a fire on December 2, 2024, did not receive direct financial assistance. Instead, the government extended the same amount of Rs 1,30,000 to Helpme Kharrngi, identified as the homeowner. This divergence in aid allocation has triggered discussions about the criteria and processes employed in dispensing disaster relief.

The government’s provision of financial aid is executed in accordance with the established guidelines of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). While the financial assistance has been welcomed by the recipients, there are growing apprehensions regarding the timeliness of claim processing and the equitable distribution of aid to all affected individuals. The need for a more transparent and efficient system has been highlighted, ensuring that all victims receive timely and fair support during their time of need.
