Storm ‘Paeng’ Hits Philippines, Death Toll Reaches 98
Guwahati: The death toll from the powerful tropical storm Paeng, which pummelling the Philippines over the weekend has increased to 98, according to the country’s disaster service.
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council, 98 people have died as a result of Paeng, as reported by the Manila Times.
40 were verified, and 58 of the total were confirmed. During this time, 63 more people went missing, and 69 people were hurt.
According to the Manila Times, the storm had an impact on 1,812,740 people, or 575,728 families, in 31,942 communities throughout 17 districts, including Metro Manila.
1.8 million Filipinos were impacted by the typhoon, including around 213,000 who sought safety in evacuation centres.
Mimaropa, the Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and SOCSKSARGEN are among the affected regions (South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City).
A total of 113,408 hectares of agricultural land were impacted, and 11,761 metric tonnes of produce were lost.
Fisheries, maize plantations, and high-value crops all sustained damage totaling P14.13 million, P4.19 million, and P2 million, respectively.
With maximum sustained winds of 85 kph and gustiness of up to 105 kph, “Paeng” was assessed to be 340 kilometres west of Dagupan City, Pangasinan, and heading west-northwestward at 10 kilometres per hour (kph).
