Students Question By Assam Police For Their Alleged Link in Geography Paper Leak Case

Guwahati: As many as seven students are currently being questioned in relation to the allegedly leaked of HSLC geography question paper.

According to police, the students were “admins” of a WhatsApp group where the first page of the geography paper was distributed on March 18.

According to superintendent of police in Sivsagar Subhrajyoti Borah, the police received a request from their counterparts in Nagaon to question these students. The other students went home and were contacted for more questioning on March 19 while two remained overnight in the children’s area of the police station.

According to Borah, a Nagaon Police team has also arrived in Sivsagar and is continuing the inquiry. On the basis of a report made to the Nagaon Sadar police station by the district’s inspector of schools, a matric examinee was arrested in Nagaon on Saturday.

For their apparent involvement in the leak of the General Science and Assamese papers, a number of students have already been arrested. Moreover, two professors, Pranab Dutta and Kumud Rajkhowa were arrested in Lakhimpur after being recognised as the mastermind behind the leak of the two question paper last week. The pair is now in the custody of the investigating agency after being brought to the CID headquarters in Guwahati on March 18.

Meanwhile, the Assam government has denied the reports of the geography paper leak. The investigation is still ongoing but authorities aim to act quickly to punish anyone found responsible for the leak.

Students and parents have expressed their outrage and irritation over the purported question paper leak which has generated a big commotion in the state. The public has been reassured by the administration that it is making every effort to maintain the fairness and openness of the educational system.
