Guwahati: The Kamrup Metro district’s additional district magistrate ordered a sub-division magisterial investigation into the death of a life-sentenced inmate on Thursday.
The decision was made after the Deputy Registrar of the Assam Human Rights Commission filed a report.
According to a press statement, Nalbari district jail authorities took detainee Nilkant Nath (71), a resident of Kokaya village in the Belsor police station in Nalbari district, to Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) on February 11 for better treatment. However, medical authorities stated on February 21 that he had died in the hospital while receiving treatment.
Sub-division magistrate Vikram Chetri has been assigned to probe the incident.
