Subansiri Dam Guard Walls Collapse in Assam’s Dhemaji
Guwahati: The Subansiri dam’s guard walls, which were constructed to protect the dam from water overflow, collapsed.
The incident took place on Saturday.
As a result of Assam’s recent high rainfall, which caused the dam’s water-carrying capacity to be exceeded, the wall fell.
The project’s intake tunnel has been shut down due to concern over collapse as overflowing water has been gushing out of the tube.
Due to the threat of flooding and inundation in lower Assam, two of the five tunnels have also been closed.
Notably, the Subansiri River has experienced increased water flow over the past few days due to the persistent rain that has been falling upstream of Arunachal Pradesh. Consequently, it is seriously affecting NHPC’s Subansiri Lower Hydroelectric Project, which is still under construction (SLHP).
The relentless rain has caused landslides and floodwater to overflow the main dam’s construction, wreaking havoc in the downstream towns.
In the Dhemaji district’s Gerukamukh, the SLHP is currently being built.
