Successful sunflower farming in Assam
Guwahati: Sunflower is a major oilseed crop. Although it is cultivated in Rabi, Kharif, Zaid all three crop seasons, for better yield it is advised to cultivate it in Zaid season after Rabi. Along with this, farmers are also getting good income by bee keeping. Sunflower oil is being sold in the market at a very good price.

However, sunflower seeds cultivation is getting popular west at Tumpreng ADO Circle in West Karbi Anglong of Assam.
Two farmers — Bhakta Chetri of Mugasong Village and Lawrence Sangma in Bithung Village — taking the lead to put the State on the map of sunflower cultivation.
Moreover, both of them cultivated 4 bighas of sunflower in the state.
The seeds were also distributed under the scheme SOPD 2022-23.
The sunflowers were earlier cultivated under NFSM oil seeds scheme and farmers were highly motivated due to the benefit obtained from that scheme.
