Supreme Court Collegium Proposes Key Appointments for Chief Justices in Five High Courts

Guwahati, 29th December: The Supreme Court Collegium has put forth significant recommendations for the appointment of Chief Justices in five High Courts across India, marking a crucial step in shaping the leadership and judicial direction of these institutions.

For the Gauhati High Court, the recommended candidate is Justice Vijay Bishnoi. With an impressive record of 652 reported judgments and nearly eleven years of dedicated service at the Rajasthan High Court, his professional ethics and integrity make him a fitting choice for elevation.

Justice Arun Bhansali has been recommended as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, with a commendable record of authoring over 1230 reported judgments during his nearly eleven-year tenure at the Rajasthan High Court. The Collegium recognizes his extensive experience and competence in the judiciary.

To lead the Rajasthan High Court, Justice Manindra Mohan Shrivastava is proposed, showcasing a significant contribution of more than 505 reported judgments and over 14 years of service as a High Court Judge.

The Jharkhand High Court is poised to welcome Justice BR Sarangi as its Chief Justice, given his impressive tally of more than 1056 reported judgments during his tenure of over ten years at the Orissa High Court, highlighting his well-established expertise in legal matters.

Lastly, Justice Sheel Nagu is nominated for the position of Chief Justice of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. His more than 12 years of service at the Madhya Pradesh High Court, during which he authored over 499 reported judgments, underscores his seniority and high level of integrity, making him a competent choice for this role.

These recommendations by the Supreme Court Collegium reflect careful consideration of each judge’s contributions, experience, and the need for representation from their respective High Courts among the Chief Justices. The Union Government will now review these recommendations for the final appointments.
