Supreme Court Halts Cases on Exam Leaks, Seeks Responses from Government and NTA

National Desk, 20th June: The Supreme Court has suspended all proceedings related to alleged leaks and malpractices in various High Courts. Justices Vikram Nath and SVN Bhatti, constituting the bench, have issued notices to the Central Government and the National Testing Agency (NTA), setting July 8 as the date for the next hearing.

During the session, the bench reviewed a total of 14 petitions, including 10 filed by 49 students and the Student Federation of India, a prominent student organization. Additionally, the NTA presented four petitions for consideration.

The petitions primarily called for the formation of a court-appointed committee to investigate irregularities in the NEET exam. However, the Supreme Court denied this request during the hearing.

Moreover, the court refused to suspend the ongoing NEET counselling process, reiterating its previous stance. It emphasized that if exams proceed following the final hearing, counselling must continue uninterrupted.

Addressing student concerns, a lawyer representing them highlighted issues faced by candidates at the Meghalaya centre, who lost 45 minutes during the exam. It was argued that these candidates should be included among the 1563 students previously identified by the NTA for retesting.

In response, the bench instructed the Central Government and the NTA to submit their responses by July 8 without imposing a stay, underscoring its commitment to promptly address issues while ensuring the nationwide continuity of the NEET process.
