Supreme Court Issues Notice to Assam Government in Plea Seeking Probe into Alleged Fake Encounter Cases
Guwahati, 15th July: The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Assam Government following a plea made by advocate Arif Jwadder. The petition calls for a thorough investigation into alleged fake encounter cases across the state.
Advocate Arif Jwadder filed the petition, seeking an independent inquiry into the matter by either the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) or a Special Investigation Team (SIT). The plea raises serious allegations of staged encounters and emphasizes the need for a comprehensive investigation.
Renowned lawyer Prashant Bhushan, representing the complainant, presented compelling arguments in court supporting the petition. The Supreme Court has acknowledged the gravity of the case and directed the state government to respond to the petition.
It is noteworthy that the Gauhati High Court had previously dismissed a similar petition, stating that separate investigations conducted by the state government for each case eliminate the need for a separate probe.
As the matter progresses, the Supreme Court’s involvement might give comprehensive examination of the alleged fake encounter cases in Assam. The response from the state government will play a crucial role in determining the future course of action regarding this sensitive issue.
