Supreme Court Judges to Attend Legal Awareness Event in Arunachal Pradesh
Itanagar: Supreme Court judges B R Gavai and Ujjal Bhuyan are set to attend a mega legal awareness programme in Arunachal Pradesh, organised by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).
The event, scheduled to take place on March 29 and 30, aims to strengthen legal outreach and awareness among tribal communities in Dirang, Bomdila, and Tawang.
The programme, titled “Mega Legal Awareness Programme Camp-cum-Sewa Apke Dwar”, will focus on disseminating information to tribal communities about their legal empowerment under various key laws. These laws include the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, the Assam Frontier (Administration of Justice) Regulation, 1945, and the Arunachal Pradesh Civil Court Act, 2021.
Justice Gavai, who serves as the executive chairman of NALSA, will be joined by Justice Bhuyan in attending the event. During their visit, they will also engage with vulnerable groups, including inmates at a jail and children at a home in Tawang, to assess their legal needs and ensure access to justice.
The event will also highlight the NALSA (Protection and Enforcement of Tribal Rights) Scheme, 2015, as well as various central and state welfare schemes. Participants will receive on-the-spot legal assistance, enabling immediate access to legal aid, grievance redressal, and welfare benefits.
NALSA has emphasized the pressing need for targeted legal initiatives in Arunachal Pradesh, where over 68% of the population belongs to tribal communities, according to the 2011 Census. By organising this event, NALSA aims to safeguard the rights and welfare of these communities.
