Supreme Court Seeks Information on Restoration of Places of Worship in Manipur

Northeast Desk, 16th December: The Supreme Court has directed the Manipur government to provide information on restoring places of worship destroyed during the state’s recent violence. During a December 15 hearing, the court asked the government to share steps taken to restore these places of worship with the court-appointed committee.

Specifically, the court instructed the government to provide the committee with identification details of destructed places of worship within two weeks, covering all religious denominations and types of religious places.

The committee will then prepare a comprehensive proposal for the restoration of these places, including addressing any encroachments or occupation issues.

The court also acknowledged the assurance that necessary steps would be taken to allow those in relief camps to celebrate Christmas.
