SUSA urges UGC not to conduct Terminal Semester Examination

The Sikkim University Students’ Association( SUSA) has written a letter to Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ Minister
Ministry of Human Resource Development requesting not to conduct terminal semester examination. HRD Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’, last week had said that Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) has decided to conduct final-year university exams saying that performance in examinations are a “reflection of their (students) ability, performance and reliability that is essential for global acceptance”.

The SUSA has written “With due veneration, this is to bring under your kind notice that we the Students at Sikkim University have been concerned about the decision of  UGC to conduct terminal semester examination. Sir, Sikkim University being a central university has students from all over the Nation. Conducting examinations amounts to mass travels and hysteria attached to it. Also, in the University with no permanent and fully fledged campus; risk that we are taking is for the exams of which requisite teachings have not been imparted. ”

It further reads” Furthermore, it is evident that despite utmost precaution, we are losing hundreds of life every day. We at Sikkim University Students’ Association (hereinafter referred to as SUSA) are bound to voice our concerns in the interest of the students. If at all the examinations are conducted, we are appearing in lieu of untaught lessons which again the moderately examined degree becomes of lesser value in comparison to conventional examinations.
It would not amount to contempt if we compare this situation to a famous song sung by Kishore Kumar “Pal bhar ke liye koi humhe pyaar kar le, jhootha hi sahi”. We humbly request, let us not conduct examinations which eventually is as fruit-less as waiving it would become.” And lastly it reads ” Therefore, we at SUSA humbly and with deep optimism request you to kindly revisit and reconsider the decision taken by UGC. We shall be ever grateful for you this act of kindness.
