Guwahati: With the war on drugs going on by the Assam Police, on Sunday the police said that they have recovered at least half a kilo of suspected heroin from the Sijubari area in Guwahati.
A police source said that the recovery was made during an encounter with suspected drug dealers and the police on Saturday night. The police said that the encounter took place in presence of Kamrup Police as well as Guwahati Police.
An operation was initiated based on specific leads with the police about the police presence of a huge consignment of suspected contraband drugs. The police during the operation came across a car that had the suspected drugs and was able to seize the suspected consignment but the persons in the cars managed to escape.
The police claimed that in order to stop the car they have fired two rounds of ammunition but the accused had managed to escape the spot.
The police further said that even though the suspects evaded, the police had seized almost half a kilogram of suspected heroin divided into 36 packets. The estimated market value is said to be Rs 3.5 crores and with this recovery, the police have initiated an operation to nab the persons behind it.
