The militants opened fire with sophisticated weapons around 7 PM, prompting a swift retaliation from village volunteers stationed in the area.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported during the exchange of fire, which continued for roughly an hour. Security forces were immediately deployed to the scene, and by 8 PM, the situation was brought under control, according to a police official.
Authorities are closely monitoring the area and have called on local villagers to cooperate with security forces as operations continue to ensure stability in the region.
In recent days, villagers have reported spotting drones flying over Mongbung Meitei village, further raising concerns about heightened militant activities. Additionally, during a search operation in Imphal East district’s Chanung and C Zoulen villages on Monday, security forces recovered a locally made single-barrel firearm, an SLR magazine, and live ammunition, a police statement confirmed.
