Suspected Terrorist Arrested for Alleged Involvement in Myanmar-Linked Conspiracy

Northeast Desk, 24th September: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested Moirangthem Anand Singh, a suspected terrorist, for his purported connections with Myanmar-based rebel organizations and his alleged involvement in a conspiracy to wage war against India.

Singh was initially among five individuals arrested by Manipur Police for being in possession of weapons reportedly looted from a police armory. Despite being granted bail by a local court, Singh was re-arrested and transported to an undisclosed location before being taken to New Delhi.

The NIA’s official statement explains that Singh’s arrest is part of an investigation into a “transnational conspiracy” orchestrated by Myanmar-based terrorist group leaders. The aim is allegedly to wage war against the Indian government by exploiting ethnic unrest in Manipur.

The case, initiated by the NIA in July, uncovered a plan by proscribed terrorist groups to recruit overground workers, cadres, and sympathizers to increase their strength. They intend to carry out attacks against security forces and opposing ethnic groups. Singh’s remand in police custody for five days allows further investigation into his connections and involvement in the conspiracy.
