Suspicious Suitcase Found To Be Filled With Cannabis In Guwahati

Guwahati: A suspicious suitcase that was found abandoned in the Zoo Road area of Guwahati contained marijuana.

This was informed by police officials on Thursday.

This follows a tense situation that gripped the air as residents of the Sundarpur area in Guwahati’s Zoo Road locality thought the luggage to be packed with explosives because it had been left there for a few days.

According to information they’ve received, however, police officers have found four bags filled with marijuana inside the suitcase.

According to officials, the amount of marijuana found within the suitcase weighed about six kilograms.

Further investigation into the incident has been launched by the police.

It should be noted that earlier in the day, residents of Guwahati’s Zoo Road area contacted authorities out of concern that an abandoned suitcase there might contain explosives.

Tensions persisted around the suitcase that came to light for the first time last night due to the residents’ suspicions that it contained bombs.

The incident was reported near Zoo Road, where the suitcase had been abandoned and left on the pavement at Sundarpur for a number of days.

Following the incident, the municipal police increased security in the area starting at 11 p.m. and requested the bomb squad to conduct a sniffer dog sweep of the area. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Surjeet Singh Panesar was also present at the spot.

A recovery van assisted in transporting the bag around 3.30 pm to the Home Guard Training Center in Panikhaiti.

However, it is still unknown whether the suitcase contained a bomb or something else because the police declined to comment on what was inside or what happened to it after it was brought to the training facility. In addition, media representatives were not permitted to access the training facility right away because of the police’s sensitivity regarding the suspicious luggage.
