Tainted ACS Officer Sukanya Bora Arrested Again in MPLAD Scam; Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody

Guwahati, 7th March: The Chief Minister’s Special Vigilance Cell (SVC) in Assam has once again arrested Sukanya Bora, a tainted ACS officer, in connection with the MPLAD scam.

The arrest follows an appeal made by the SVC to the court for permission to apprehend Bora.

The court has granted permission for the SVC to interrogate Bora inside the jail, where she is currently serving imprisonment. Bora has been remanded to another 14 days of judicial custody.

Sukanya Bora stands accused of amassing properties disproportionate to her earnings under the guise of family members and relatives.

Over eight years of service, her wealth reportedly surged by approximately 800 percent. Bora was suspended in March 2023 due to suspected irregularities in projects funded by the Members of Parliament Local Area Development (MPLAD) fund.

Despite her plea for anticipatory bail being rejected by the Gauhati High Court in May, Bora’s legal troubles persisted.

On January 18, 2024, the CM’s SVC arrested Bora in connection with the MPLAD scam, subsequently placing her in three-day custody. However, her bail petition was dismissed by a special judge’s court on February 9, 2024.
