Tamil Nadu: Accused of More than 60 cases shot dead in Police Encounter
Guwahati: One person was shot and killed by the Dindigul police in Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Niravi Murugan.
The incident took place in the Nanguneri of the district.
According to reports, Murugan has over 60 cases registered against him. Murder and kidnapping charges have been filed against him in the districts of Tirunelvelli, Tuticorin, and Kanyakumari.
Murugan who has been charged in over 60 instances, was one of the suspects in a robbery in Dindigul’s Oddanchatram. Murugan was implicated in the theft of around 40 sovereigns of gold from a doctor’s apartment.
Moreover, the high-profile murder of Aladi Aruna, the former law minister of Tamil Nadu in 2004 was the most prolific crime he was reportedly implicated in. Murugan was also wanted in other states, such as Karnataka, for crimes.
Based on a tip, the special police in Dindigul were looking for Murugan, who was hiding in the Kalakkad municipality of Tirunelveli district.
When the police arrived at the scene to apprehend the history-sheeter, he attempted to flee by attacking a few cops. Four police officers were minorly injured as a result of his attack.
It needs to be mentioned that Sub-inspector Esakkiraja who was in command of the operation, shot Murugan as he tried to flee, and he died instantly.
