Tamil Nadu: Car Falls Into 50-Feet-Deep Pit , 8 Dead

Guwahati: As many as eight devotees were killed and two persons were injured including a nine-year-old boy a car carrying devotees crashed into a 40-foot-deep pit in Tamil Nadu’s Theni district.

After visiting Sabarimala, ten devotees of Ayyappa from the village of Sanmugasundarapuram near Andipatti were headed home when their car met with an accident late on Friday.

The car crashed into a pit about 50 feet deep while they were driving along the Kumuli mountain route toward Iraichalpalam.

“Eight devotees died after their car plunged into a 40-feet-deep pit at Kumuli mountain pass in Theni district,” KV Muralidharan, District Collector, Theni said, adding that two persons have been rescued and rushed to a hospital.

One of the two saved people is a boy of 9 year-old. They were brought to a local government hospital where first aid was given after they suffered severe injuries.
