Tamil Nadu Govt: Not Happy With Assam Sending Team To Get Jumbo Joymala
Guwahati: The Tamil Nadu government expressed its displeasure on Tuesday over the Assam government sending a team to remove Jumbo Joymala without first having a proper discussion.
Following the release of a PETA video, the Assam government warned the Tamil Nadu government not to torture Joymala.
Following the video release, the state government had sent a team to bring back her and eight other jumbos to Assam.
To this Tamil Nadu forest secretary Supriya Sahu said, “It is unfortunate that we are unable to have a direct discussion on the issue and that the team has arrived in Chennai to meet Joymala without any authorization.”
She asserted, “The whole incident has sparked unnecessary controversy.”
After meeting with the Tamil Nadu Forest Department, the team sent by the Assam government was given permission to meet tortured jumbo Joymala.
It should be noted that Tamil Nadu has nine elephants being kept there against the law. Since being leased from Assam in 2008 for temple visits, these elephants have been kept against the law.
PETA India has revealed recordings of how ‘Joymala’ has been tortured to abuse by her mahout inside the temple. She also experienced torture in 2021.
