Tarundeep Rai to Lead India in Men’s Recurve Team at Paris Olympics 2024

Northeast Desk, 21st June: Sikkim’s Tarundeep Rai, a renowned archer, is set to represent India in the Men’s Recurve Team at the prestigious Paris Summer Olympics 2024, marking his third appearance at the pinnacle of international sports.

Born on February 22, 1984, in Namchi, South Sikkim, Rai hails from the picturesque Himalayan foothills of India. Following in the footsteps of his cousin, Indian football icon Bhaichung Bhutia, Rai has crafted an impressive career in archery, earning accolades and recognition for his skills on the global stage.

Rai debuted internationally at the age of 19 during the 2003 Asian Archery Championships in Myanmar. His standout performance helped India secure a notable fourth-place finish at the World Championships in New York later that year.

In 2004, Rai clinched his first major individual triumph with a gold medal at the Asian Grand Prix in Bangkok. He continued to excel, earning a spot at the 2004 Athens Olympics where he competed in the men’s individual recurve event, finishing 43rd overall. Despite a promising start, Rai narrowly lost to Greek archer Alexandros Karageorgiou in the elimination round, ending India’s campaign in the individual event. He also contributed to India’s 11th place finish in the men’s team event at Athens.

Rai’s journey in archery underscores his unwavering dedication and exceptional talent, making his qualification for the Paris Olympics a significant milestone in his illustrious career. He remains an inspiration for aspiring athletes not only in Sikkim but across India.

With the Paris Summer Olympics 2024 on the horizon, all eyes are on Rai as he prepares to showcase his prowess once again on the world stage.
