Task Force Established by Sikkim’s Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department to Manage Rescue and Relief Efforts in Mangan District

Northeast Desk, 7th October: Sikkim’s Land Revenue and Disaster Management department has formed a team to manage rescue and relief operations in the Mangan district, with a particular focus on Dzongu and other affected areas.

The team comprises Secretary RDD, Tsewanag Gyatso (IAS); Additional Chief Engineer, Culture, Rimp Dorjee Lepcha; Divisional Engineer, Culture, Rapden P Kazi; Joint Director, Science & Technology Department, Sonam Rinchen Lepcha, along with one platoon of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) attached to assist in these operations.

This team was established following approval from the Chief Secretary-cum-Chairman of the State Executive Committee (SEC) and Sikkim State Disaster Management Authority. Their primary objective is to assess and manage the rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts in response to the widespread destruction caused by flash floods in the Himalayan state.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shri Prem Singh Tamang, after an extensive tour of Rangpo, shifted his focus to Singtam town, which was severely affected by the recent natural calamity. His visit aimed to evaluate the extent of damage, supervise relief and restoration efforts, and provide support to those in distress.

During his visit to the relief camp, the Chief Minister announced an ex gratia payment of Rs. 4 lakhs for the families of deceased Indian citizens whose remains have been located and identified. Additionally, he declared immediate relief of Rs. 2000 each for all individuals sheltered in the relief camps, emphasizing that this assistance is temporary while ongoing damage assessments are conducted.
