Tea Worker Killed, 4 Others Injured In Jumbo Attack In Assam

Guwahati: In more cases of elephant attack in the state, a tea worker was trampled to death and at least four others sustained critical injuries after being allegedly attacked by a wild elephant at a tea estate in Nagaon district of Assam.

The incident was reported from Hatigaon tea estate in Kaliabor. 

According to reports, the tusker unleashed a reign of terror at the tea estate where the workers were resting after a long day’s work. 

During the incident, one of the workers identified as Laxman Minj died on the spot while four others sustained severe injuries.

The injured were identified as Prakash Ekka, Pratap Ekka, Dhiraj Tirki, and Shani Kerketa.

However, all the injured were immediately rushed to a hospital for better treatment.

Later, forest officials reached the spot and took stock of the situation.

Reportedly, it is suspected that the wild elephant had strayed inside the tea estate in search of food.

Notably, there has recently been a sharp increase in human-elephant conflicts in Assam.

The main cause of the developing human-elephant conflict issue in Assam is thought to be human encroachment on forest lands.
