Tensions Flare in Manipur as Fresh Firing Erupts in Kangchup Region, One Civilian Killed
Northeast Desk, 1st September: Tensions in Manipur escalated on September 1 as fresh firing broke out near Koutruk in the Kangchup region under Imphal West district. The violence reportedly began around 2 PM, with suspected Kuki militants launching an attack, leading to an intense exchange of gunfire.
According to sources, one civilian has been killed, and another has been injured in the ongoing clash. Additionally, two police personnel were injured in the retaliatory firing and were quickly transported to Raj Medicity in Imphal for medical attention.
The civilian victims, identified as Surbala Ngangbam, 31, and her 12-year-old child, both sustained bullet injuries. They were rushed to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Lamphel. Tragically, Surbala succumbed to her injuries, while her child remains under treatment.
