The Kerala Story: What is the Reason Behind Controversy of the Film ‘The Kerala Story’? Why Are Some People Opposing the Film?

Last year the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ created a sensation in the Bollywood film industry. Although there was some controversy about this film but it was still a huge success. Recently, another film ‘The Kerala Story’ has now caused controversy in many parts of Kerala including the film industry. What is this film based on? Do you know why there is a controversy about this film.

In ‘The Kashmir Files’, director Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri shows the killing of Hindus by local in Kashmir. The film was produced by the currently famous producer Vipul Amrit Lal Shah under the same title. Directed by Sudeep Sen, the film has been in the controversy ever since the teaser was released .

The Kerala Story’s directors and producers told the media that ‘The Kerala Story’ revolves around the story of Hindu women from Kerala who converted to Islam in 2018-2019 and illegally trafficked into ISIS and other Islamic fields.

It is said that the film is based on the real-life phenomenon behind the disappearance of around 32,000 women in Kerala. It is reported that the missing women have joined militant Islamic extremist groups. And they were also converted into products by making them sexual slaves. Various arguments have been heard in various parts of Kerala including the recently released film ‘Kerala Story’.

The makers of the film which released on May 5, have come under severe criticism from opposition Congress parties including the ruling Communist government in Kerala. Freedom of expression cannot be taken away. This is not actually the story of Kerala. It is said that such films will harm the religious harmony of Kerala. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said the release of the film will be stopped in Kerala. They shouted that they are trying to portray the state of Kerala as a hub of religious extremism in this film. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed some anger and said such divisive politics would not work here.

On the other hand, the Hindu community there as well as the Christian community in Kerala say that the film shows the same things happening in Kerala. Whose argument are they listening to? So let’s take a look at what is the real facts of this film.

Director Sudipta Sen has made the film ‘The Kerala Story’, based on the story of 32,000 Hindu girls who have gone missing there for the past few years. This film shows that those who went missing there converted to Islam and from there took part in ISIS activities. It has been observed that the girl who went missing in Kerala took part in terrorist activities all over the world by taking up terror training by converting religion. This led to a controversy over this film. The film stars Adah Sharma in the lead role.

Pinirai Vijayan, the chief minister of that state said nothing of that sort had happened in the state as shown in the ‘Kerala Story’. It is said that this film has been made in such a way that the brand image of Kerala is harmed. Though the court, the Central Investigating Agency and the Ministry of Home Affairs have dismissed the issue of Love Jihad, it has been announced that the film which has damaged Kerala’s reputation will not be released here. Chief Minister Pinirai Vijayan also said that the conspiracy of forces that harm the religious harmony of the state will not work here.

The release of ‘The Kerala Story’ has been opposed by many parties and organisations including the government and the opposition Congress. It is said that this film has been made in such a way that the image of Kerala is damaged. Parties like THE IUML claim that a group is trying to harm religious beliefs. But the Christian Association of Kerala has given the green signal for the release of this film. He says that the film will unveil the story of a strong family for Love Jihad in Kerala.

Reacting to the controversy surrounding ‘The Kerala Story’, film director Sudipta Sen said, “Kerala’s favourite people. You are in the first place in the field of education. Education teaches us patience. Why do people come for an opinion before watching a movie? Watch the movie first. If you don’t like it, talk. It is said that research was done in Kerala for seven years for this film. We are a part of you. He tweeted that our temple is Indian. How this film, which has become the epicentre of controversy will register at the box office will be noteworthy.”
