Three Arrested for Murder and Sexual Assault of Minor Girl in Assam’s Karimganj

Guwahati, 29th September: In a harrowing incident, three individuals, including a railway employee, have been arrested for allegedly murdering a minor girl and engaging in sexual acts with her body in Karimganj, Assam.

The minor girl’s lifeless body was discovered on the same day she was tragically killed in the Medal Part-1 area of Karimganj.

According to reports, on September 9, three individuals forcibly entered the victim’s residence and committed the heinous crime. After the murder, they also engaged in sexual contact with the victim’s body, according to sources.

A case (no – 694/23) has been registered under Section 376(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), read with Section 6 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. A post-mortem examination was conducted at the Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).

Partha Pratim Das, Superintendent of Police (SP) of Karimganj Police, revealed that during the course of their investigation, they discovered a mobile phone number in the deceased girl’s notebook. This information ultimately led to the arrest of the three suspects following technical analysis.

The three arrested individuals have been identified as Biplab Paul, Shubra Malakar, and Rahul Das. The police have confirmed that Rahul Das, a railway employee, was the main mastermind behind this horrific crime.

During interrogation, Rahul Das reportedly confessed that he had attempted to establish a physical relationship with the victim girl, but his advances were rebuffed as the girl refused his advances.

SP Partha Pratim Das stated, “On September 9, at around 11 pm, the accused persons forcefully entered the girl’s home upon learning that she was alone. After strangulating her, they attempted to engage in a physical relationship with her before leaving the scene.”

The police have indicated that once all technical evidence is collected, they will swiftly file a charge sheet in the case. This gruesome incident highlights the urgency of addressing issues related to child safety and gender-based violence in society.
